The strange kind of cute

Wasn't going to post this but changed my mind.  Just a weird doodle.  Maybe some sort of tooth fairy reject, who knows?  I guess I should know since I'm the one who drew her...whatever.  :)

The Man of Steel

My very talented friend and co-worker Kevin has been helping me improve at drawing more dynamic looking male characters.  I think his advice is starting to pay off.  :)

Optimus Flowers

This sketch started out normal enough.  Then I did something new.  The first moment I started to get afraid of mistakes, I instantly drew big bold lines.  I didn't let myself think about it too much and almost had a "what happens, happens" attitude.  After about 10 minutes of furious drawing, below is what I ended up with.

Oddly enough, the more complete it became the more it looked like Brandon Flowers from the Killers.  Can't say I was specifically going for that but I'm ok with it.  Besides he's never been too shabby to look at.  ;)

Interesting pose..

A strange little sketch done in between working on paintings for Comic Con.  Thought it had some intrigue to it.

Hey look it's a guy!

Alright, I'll admit it: I don't draw as many male characters as I should.  To be honest I tend to draw females almost solely on the fact that I get to draw LOTS of hair if I want, with guys there's usually not so much fun up top :)

Never the less Comic Con inspired me to sketch up one of my favorite X-men characters the other day.

The structure within...

Many of my friends will tell you I am a self proclaimed anatomy nerd.  I can't help it!  Ever since I took an anatomical sculpture class I have been fascinated by artistic anatomy.  Learning bone and muscle structures has improved my drawing leaps and bounds.  It's also given me a new appreciation of the great renaissance masters.  Michelangelo is my current hero in particular.  I think it's a shame that there isn't more excitement about figure study and anatomy within my generation of artists.  I know the subject can seem kind of snooty at times but I try not to take myself too seriously with it.  I just love being able to draw a bone or muscle and name it as well.  Power to the anatomy nerds!! :)

A fun, quick practice study:
skeletal structure in blue pen.

Then a muscle study on top of it with red pen.
